STORAGE GUIDE

How to store DMT and how long it keeps

DMT itself is a stable, non-dangerous chemical. What shortens its usable life is moisture, heat and damaged packaging.

Baseline storage conditions

Use a cool, dry, ventilated warehouse away from open flames, heat sources, strong oxidizers and direct sunlight. DMT ships as general cargo without dangerous-goods warehousing, but persistently warm storage accelerates moisture pickup and caking.

Moisture is the main enemy

Polyester-grade DMT specifies moisture at 0.02% max. Damaged packaging or repeated opening lets material absorb moisture, which raises both moisture and acid value and destabilizes transesterification. Reseal opened bags immediately and use them first.

Packaging integrity on arrival

Inspect the outer packaging on receipt: liners intact, seals tight, no broken or damp bags. Lot labels must match the COA so batch traceability is preserved from warehouse to reactor.

Storage period and re-inspection

With intact packaging and compliant conditions DMT stores well over extended periods. For stock older than about twelve months, re-test melting point, moisture and acid value against the original COA before charging; matching results mean the material is fit for normal use.

First-in first-out and batch discipline

Rotate stock by lot number, avoid mixing batches in one stack and separate grades physically to prevent misuse. A simple ledger of lot, arrival date and destination makes any quality investigation an hours-level exercise.
